W H Bates developed a method of retraining the eye muscles to work without glasses.  The Bates method restores sight firstly by a series of exercises that relax and soothes the eye muscles; and secondly retrains the relaxed eyes to focus more effectively.  His theories are controversial and not universally accepted, but millions around the world are said to have improved their vision with the Bates Method. The exercises are simple and easy to follow throughout.

William Horatio Bates (December 23, 1860 – July 10, 1931) was an American physician who practiced ophthalmology and developed what became known as the Bates Method for better eyesight.
